Twelve Life Stages

The life cycle of energy — from extinction (Jeol) to the tomb (Myo), then around again

The Twelve Life Stages compare the energy state of each character in a Saju chart to the human life cycle. The cycle begins at Jeol (Extinction) and progresses through Tae (Conception), Yang (Nurturing), Jangsaeng (Birth), Mogyok (Bathing), Gwandae (Capping), Geollok (Establishment), Jewang (Peak), Soe (Decline), Byeong (Illness), Sa (Death), and Myo (Tomb), before cycling again. Meaning of each stage: ● Jeol (Extinction): Energy is completely severed. The void just before a new beginning. ● Tae (Conception): The stage where life is conceived. Planning, envisioning. ● Yang (Nurturing): Absorbing nourishment and preparing for growth. Learning, preparation. ● Jangsaeng (Birth): The moment energy is born. Starting, departing, hope. ● Mogyok (Bathing): Washing clean and stepping into the world. Change, instability, challenge. ● Gwandae (Capping): Donning the cap and entering society. Growth, confidence, social recognition. ● Geollok (Establishment): Energy settles into a stable position. Stability, income, demonstrating skill. ● Jewang (Peak): Energy reaches its zenith. Prime, authority, leadership. ● Soe (Decline): Energy gradually diminishes. Rest, inner reflection. ● Byeong (Illness): Energy weakens. Need for recharging, health management. ● Sa (Death): The point where energy stops. Transition, transformation, pause. ● Myo (Tomb): The stage where energy is stored. Accumulation, organization, latent potential. The Twelve Life Stages do not refer to literal life and death but symbolize the strength, weakness, and flow of energy. Being at Peak (Jewang) is not automatically good, and being at Tomb (Myo) is not automatically bad. Applying the Twelve Life Stages to real life yields highly useful insights. For example, a person whose Day Master falls at the Birth (Jangsaeng) stage excels throughout life at learning new things and starting fresh, showing strong enthusiasm for education and self-improvement. Someone at Establishment (Geollok) tends to be exceptionally capable of generating stable income through employment or business, frequently earning recognition for their skills within organizations. A person at Peak (Jewang) possesses powerful charisma and drive, but because their energy is at maximum intensity, they must be cautious of overconfidence and self-righteousness. The greatest misconception about the Twelve Life Stages stems from the names Death (Sa) and Tomb (Myo) themselves. Death does not mean literal dying; it signifies a turning point of energy — a period of stopping existing patterns and crossing into a new paradigm. Tomb means energy is being stored underground. It looks quiet on the surface, but underneath, power is being gathered for the next phase. Rather than recklessly launching major ventures during a Tomb period, it is wiser to strengthen foundations and accumulate knowledge and resources, which can then translate into significant achievements when the Birth or Establishment phase arrives. The Twelve Life Stages can be applied not only to the Day Master but to every character in the Saju chart. If a Wealth star is at Establishment, finances flow in steadily. If an Authority star is at Peak, workplace power is maximized. Conversely, if a Wealth star sits at Tomb, money tends to be temporarily locked up or accumulated in savings. If an Authority star is at Extinction, the likelihood of job changes or career transitions rises. Applying the Twelve Life Stages to each Ten God enables far more precise interpretations. The progression of the Twelve Life Stages can also be tracked through Major Luck Cycles and Annual Fortune. Understanding which stage the Day Master currently occupies in the active Daeun provides invaluable guidance on whether this is a time for aggressive expansion or for inner consolidation. The span from Birth to Peak represents an ascending energy arc favorable for new challenges, while Decline through Tomb represents a converging arc best suited for organizing and accumulating. Aligning one's actions with these natural rhythms leads to more effective outcomes. DESTIGER automatically calculates the Twelve Life Stages for each character in the user's Saju chart and presents a comprehensive view that includes the current stage within the active Major Luck Cycle and Annual Fortune. By making the rise and fall of energy intuitively visible, it serves as a practical tool for making strategically timed decisions.
